SCOPE & PURPOSE: The framework covers the life cycle of software from onceptualization of ideas through retirement and consists of processes for acquiring and supplying software products and services. In addition, the ramework provides for controlling and improving these processes.
The processes form a comprehensive set. An organization, depending on its purpose, can select an appropriate subset to fulfill that purpose. The standard is designed to be tailored for an individual organization, project, or application. It is also designed to be used when software is a stand-alone entity, or an embedded or integral part of the total system.
USER: This standard is for all software engineers and managers responsible for software development and maintenance.
SECURITY: This standard groups security with other critical requirements (safety, reliability, etc.) and mentions them only as a concern in the software process. No substantive guidance for security is provided.
ISSUING ORGANIZATION: Insitute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
ORGINATING COMMITTEEE OR BODY: Software Engineering Standards Committee; IEEE Computer Society
CATEGORY: General Engineering Standard
